FAQ: Data Discrepancy between Adjust and SplitMetrics Acquire

Learn how to check your integration settings and find the main reasons for data discrepancies.

Written by Polina Barysheva

Here, you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding Adjust integration and reasons for the discrepancy between Adjust and SplitMetrics Aquire.

πŸ‘‰ To set up integration with Adjust, follow the guide.

I don't see Adjust events in SplitMetrics Acquire

To check if SplitMetrics Acquire started receiving events from Adjust:

1. Go to Settings > Integrations.

2. Click the gear icon (βš™οΈ) next to the necessary app.

Here, you can see what events started coming to SplitMetrics Acquire, which ones didn't, and the time of the last received event. Additionally, you can check if a Custom Conversion was created for a particular in-app event.

If there is an event name without the time of the last event, then Adjust hasn't sent the event to SplitMetrics Acquire; however, integration is already set up.

The time of the last event indicates that the event happened and was sent by Adjust to our system. However, if you haven't created a Custom Conversion for this event, the event won't be saved and displayed on the dashboard, despite being sent to us.

Note. You don't need to create Custom Conversions for Install and Reattribution.

❗ Also, double-check the correctness of the Client ID in the Enable data sharing section in Adjust. if there is a mistake, Adjust won't be able to send the data.

I can see only installs coming to my account

For the Adjust Partner integration, different types of events are configured separately. If there are no in-app events in SplitMetrics, check if you configured sending the necessary in-app events to SplitMetrics Acquire in the Map events section.

Besides Partner integration, there is also Custom Global Callback integration. If you have configured a custom postback, please check the postbacks specified for install/in-app events.

πŸ‘‰ Learn more about partner and custom integration settings here.

❗Note. The names of Partner events in Adjust must match the event names added to custom conversions in SplitMetrics Acquire. If they don't match, SplitMetrics Acquire will not recognize or save data for those events.

I set up Integration correctly, but part of the events is still missing

SplitMetrics Acquire starts receiving events in real time once the integration setup has been fully and properly completed. The events that refer to the prior period (that is, historical data) wouldn't be sent to SplitMetrics Acquire.

To compare the data from both platforms, send our Support team πŸ’¬ the screenshots of the Adjust dashboard that clearly show the number of events compared.

For accurate data comparison, ensure that the time zone is set to match your Apple Ads account (ORTZ) and apply the filters as shown in the screenshot belowπŸ‘‡

To check whether some particular events that you observe in Adjust happened after or before the integration setup, provide either of the following:

There are only Installs on the dashboard, although I can see the events with Time of the last event on the Integration page

Installs, unlike in-app events, are saved automatically in SplitMetrics Acquire after the correct Integration setup. To track your in-app events, you need to create Custom Conversions for them.

When creating Custom Conversions, you should give the same names to your events as specified in the Adjust settings. Otherwise, our system won't recognize and save these events, and you won't see data on them on the dashboards.

If, after all checks, the events still don't come to SplitMetrics Acquire, it is recommended to reach out to [email protected]. Adjust support team can check the fact of sending events to SplitMetrics Acquire internally.

The number of in-app events in SplitMetrics Acquire and Adjust differs

Below are the main reasons you can observe discrepancies between SplitMetrics Acquire and Adjust.

1. Grouping data.

Differences may occur due to using the Adjust dashboard to compare event counts.

β–ͺ️ SplitMetrics Acquire displays data from two partners: Apple and MMP. Apple data comes in the aggregated form based on tap date. Therefore, the data from trackers is adjusted to Apple's data format to show the ad's efficiency after a particular tap.

Note. If the click time field for the event is empty, then Install time is added, since in ~94% of cases, tap on the ad and Install happen on the same day. The click time field may be empty when users are not permitted to track them.

β–ͺ️ Adjust dashboards are built based on event time, and in-app events don't always happen on the same day as installs. For example, users can get a subscription on the 7th day after they tap on the ad or open the app.

2. Different timezone

β–ͺ️ SplitMetrics Acquire receives events from MMP in UTC and displays them in ORTZ (an organization timezone inherited from the Apple account).

β–ͺ️ Adjust dashboards use a timezone set in their settings.

3. Privacy settings

β–ͺ️ SplitMetrics Acquire is the official partner of Apple Ads. We don't use confidential user-level information when running the platform.

The Advanced Privacy setting in Adjust limits the sending of events to opt-out users. If SplitMetrics Acquire Install rate ~10-15%, Advanced Privacy Setting might have been activated in Adjust previously.

β–ͺ️ Adjust Attribution privacy models

Currently, Adjust offers multiple attribution privacy models: Probabilistic Attribution and Extended Privacy Measurement.

Probabilistic Attribution. With this model, all channels sharing engagement data with Adjust are attributed and receive raw data callbacks for optimization.

Extended Privacy Measurement. When this mode is selected, non-consented user data is protected from being shared with third parties. In this case, Apple Ads attributed data for iOS 14.5+ devices where ATT status is not "Authorized" (for example, Not Determined, Restricted, or Denied) will not be sent to SplitMetrics Acquire. Therefore, you may start noticing some discrepancies between Adjust and SplitMetrics Acquire dashboards. Find more information on the data available for this mode here.

Ensure you have Probabilistic Attribution privacy mode enabled for your Adjust account if you want the SplitMetrics Acquire numbers to match your Adjust dashboards.

4. Reattribution settings

The default Reattribution settings in Adjust are inactivity window β€” 7 days and reattribution window β€” 7 days.

❗ Note that if you set both the reattribution window and inactivity period to 7 days, very little time will be left for users to be reattributed, thus leading to losing a big part of in-app events and installs related to these users.

This is especially noticeable in Returning Users campaigns. The more limited the reattribution period, the fewer you will have MMP statistics for retargeting campaigns, resulting in discrepancies between systems.

It's recommended to set the reattribution window to 30 days and leave the inactivity period as 7 days. Apple Ads uses a 30-day attribution window, meaning that MMP can attribute the user up to 30 days after an Ad Click.
