Adding Keywords in Bulk to Another Ad Group or Campaign

Written by Polina Barysheva

A typical case for this is when you add good search terms as keywords or transfer well-performing keywords from discovery ad groups and campaigns to exact ad groups and campaigns as exact match keywords.

When doing this, you usually need to mass change the match type and CPT bids of keywords. For steps to take, read How to bulk change the match type of keywords? and How to bulk edit CPT bids of keywords?

You can add keywords in bulk to another campaign or ad group from the interface (1) or by using a CSV file (2).

1. Go to the keywords level and filter out keywords in a particular campaign or ad group as needed.

2. Select the keywords you would like to change and click Actions.

💡 Tip. To quickly locate specific keywords, enter multiple keywords separated by commas in the main search field or use the search filter.

3. In the drop-down menu, select Add as keywords.

4. Select where you will add the keywords.

You can:

  • add keywords to the selected ad groups

  • add keywords to all ad groups in the selected campaign

5. The keywords will use the Default Max CPT Bid of the selected ad group if only one ad group is chosen. If multiple ad groups are selected, a default CPT bid of $1 will be applied.

To adjust bids, toggle on Set custom bids, select the checkboxes next to the keywords, and either enter your preferred values directly using inline editing or click Edit bid for selected keywords to modify bids in bulk.

You can add extra keywords either by typing them manually into the designated field and pressing Enter, or by selecting from the suggested keywords. Suggested keywords will automatically be assigned a CPT bid based on industry benchmarks.

Match Type may be set individually or in bulk by selecting the desired option from the dropdown.

Additionally, you can label keywords individually by clicking + Add label or in bulk by clicking Add label to selected keywords.

6. Click Add (N) Keywords.

💡Tip. Handle multiple keywords at once using our latest Select All feature in the Keywords Dashboard of the Ads Manager:

Now, you can easily select keywords across all pages in the grid view and also apply Change CPT Bid actions to all selected keywords at once. This enhancement will streamline your workflow and save you time by allowing bulk adjustments effortlessly.

This way is fast, convenient, and can save you time.

Using a CSV file, you can:

- Upload keywords downloaded from other campaigns or ad groups.

- Upload the list of new keywords. New. Now, you can indicate either campaign/ad group ID or name (or both) to specify the keywords' location in your account.

- New. Label keywords right in the file.

🔹 If you want to upload keywords from other ad groups or campaigns, you first need to download the list of these keywords as a CSV file:

  1. Go to the Keywords level.

  2. Select the necessary keywords individually, using filters, or in bulk.

  3. Click Actions > Download keywords.

You will see a pop-up message that the report is on its way.

The report will be downloaded through your browser directly to your device.

🔹 Save the downloaded file and upload it to your account into the necessary campaign or ad group. Here is how:

  • Go to the Keywords level, click Actions > Upload Keywords

  • Drag and drop or choose a local file and click Next.

If you want to add a list of new words, simply download the template, fill it out, and upload it.

Notes:

  • Using a single CSV file, you can add keywords to multiple campaigns or ad groups. Specify campaign or ad group names or IDs, and the system will match and add keywords to the necessary locations.

  • The labels column is optional.

  • Files from Apple Ads can also be uploaded as before.

  • Specifying both the campaign/ad group ID and the name isn't obligatory. You can add just one of these: name or ID.

  • You can specify several labels for each keyword, separated by commas without spaces. If you add new labels, they will be automatically created in your account after the file is uploaded.
